Endodontic Treatment
Endodontic treatment, also known as root canal treatment or root canalization, is a procedure commonly conducted by your dentist. It involves addressing issues with the tooth’s inner component, the pulp, when it’s compromised due to decay, fractures, or necrosis.
This treatment is the optimal way to conserve the tooth. Damage to the pulp can lead to significant tooth discomfort and if neglected, it can result in a dental abscess. The process of root canal treatment involves the removal of the pulp, which is the living part of the tooth. This is followed by disinfecting the entire internal canal system of the tooth, expanding the main canals, and filling them with a material to seal them off.
Subsequently, your dentist will need to restore the tooth. The type of restoration will depend on the cause of the root canal, the degree of substance loss, and the post-operative prognosis.
