Tooth Filling
Once tooth decay is arrested from inflicting further harm, our skilled dentists will rehabilitate your tooth to its original form. This is achieved by introducing filling materials into the cavities that have formed, thereby averting additional decay. This restoration process not only brings relief from discomfort but also reinstates the normal function of your tooth.
Our dental professionals employ two primary techniques for tooth filling: direct and indirect. Each method is unique and chosen based on the patient’s specific needs and the extent of the decay.
Indirect Fillings: Indirect fillings necessitate multiple visits to our clinic. The affected tooth receives a filling that is custom-made to ensure a perfect fit. This filling is crafted in a specialized dental laboratory before it is fitted onto your tooth. Notable among indirect filling options are gold fillings and porcelain fillings. These fillings, particularly porcelain ones, blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, making them less noticeable. They are known for their durability, often lasting up to 20 years.
Direct Fillings: Direct fillings, on the other hand, can be completed in a single visit or chairside. This category includes amalgam fillings and composite resin fillings (white fillings). Amalgam fillings are easily identifiable due to their color, while composite resin fillings match the color of your teeth, making them less conspicuous. The resin mixture can be directly poured into the cavity, providing immediate relief. However, it’s worth noting that they may not be as long-lasting as their amalgam and gold counterparts.
